U.S. Springfield Model 1868 Trapdoor .50-70 caliber rifle. Metal has a light gray patina. Lock plate is dated 1863 and serial number is 33398. Stock shows handling and storage wear. Bore is dark with strong rifling and areas of pitting. Many state militias were given these rifles.
