Historic factory engraved Colt 1851 Navy presented to Alexander Monroe. Beautiful factory engraved Colt 1851 Navy with ivory grips. Engraving remains nice and sharp and good amounts of the cylinder scene remain. Barrel was shortened to 6 3/8”. Backstrap reads “Presented to A. Monroe/ May 15th 1865”. Alexader Monroe had a distinguished career as an officer during the Civil War. He started out as a Sergeant in the 21st Ohio infantry in April of 1861 and left the service as a Major of the 122nd Colored Troop infantry in January of 1866. A binder of research weighing just over 7lbs accompanies this gun. The research on Alexander Monroe is very thorough detailing each unit’s history, his muster roll’s, correspondence between Monroe and other officer’s, his wife’s pension request and much more. Very interesting history on a very desirable factory engraved Colt!
