U.S. Springfield Model 1875 Type III Officers rifle .45-70 (AL10079) CONSIGNMENT

NSN, made in 1881, .45-70, 26" round barrel marked with "V/P/Eagle" Bore is bright with some scattered areas of light surface frosting visible, rifling remains strong. Barrel's finish has started to thin to a plum patina with approximately 40% original blue remaining. Breech is marked "U.S/MODEL/1873" Lock plate is marked with "Eagle-U.S./SPRINGFIELD. Traces of case coloring is still visible in protected areas. Back of the receiver is marked "1881". Engraving still remains sharp on breech, lock and hammer. Stock has nicks, dings and scratches noted, checkering still remains sharp. "1881" cartouche is present on the left side. Rifle is equipped with a Oval base vernier tang sight and checkered pistol grip. One of 477 Officers models manufactured.
