English Trade Musket. Unmarked except for London on the lock. This gun is a light weight fowler exhibiting all of the usual features for a trade musket. The British sent these all over the world to trade with the natives of the land they were colonizing. The trade muskets are all fowlers and were inferior against a rifle that the occupying force would have. These guns were made in both flintlock and percussion all the way up until the early 1900s, well into the cartridge period. These were also used in the American West with the Indians. Gun shows typical hard use, but still functions properly. It was converted from a flintlock to percussion at some time and the forend of this gun has been restored about a foot from the muzzle. Very interesting piece!
