Colt Commando .38 Special caliber revolver. Commando with a great history. This Colt Commando was one of 140 pistols ordered by the Alabama National Guard on WWII to replace 1911A1 .45 Autos that the U.S. Army withdrew from the Alabama National Guard. The army subsequently gave back the 1911’s to the Alabama Guard, but the Commandos by then had arrived. The Guard donated the guns to the Marion Military Institute Museum, and the guns remained in storage from 1943 until March 2011. Gun has 99% phosphate finish and is in the original box with brochure and arsenal cleaning rod. There is an unusual red paper which we think is rust resistant paper from 1943. The box top is numbered to the gun. The box bottom is numbered to another gun. Probably the result of Guard members misplacing tops and bottoms. Pretty fantastic history and the only arsenal or factory boxed Colt Commando we have owned. Comes with letter from the Marion Military Institute, dated July 24th, 2011 mentioning the revolver by serial number. Truly unusual Colt revolver!
