Mauser 1896 Red Nine 9mm caliber pistol. Mauser “Red Nine” 1920 Treaty of Versailles Rework. These rework pistols were originally full size Red Nines with longer barrel and adjustable rear sight. After WWI, pursuant to the terms of the treaty of Versailles. Germany could have an Army of only 100,000 men and pistols of no more than 4” barrels. Mauser shortened the barrels and removed the rear sight and replaced the rear sight with a fixed rear sight. Guns were usually marked “1920” for the year of the Treaty. Several parts are re-numbered to match the frame. We have seen this on several examples and the method of re-numbering lead us to believe this was arsenal done rather than at the Mauser factory. All numbers match. The bore is excellent. Grips are excellent. Gun has 95% blue. The front grip strap has Police Issue markings S.Koln.39. for Schultzpolizei Koln #39. Koln is for Koln or Cologne Germany. Note: the stock slot was very professionally altered to fit some stock other than a Mauser. Gun is very good plus. Neat Police Issue 1920 Red Nine!
