This second type U.S. Model 1884 trapdoor cadet rifle was manufactured in 1890. They are noteworthy in that the second type Model 1884 cadet rifle was the last of the famed trapdoor line prior to switching over to the Krag rifle. The 29.5" round 45 Government caliber (45-70) barrel has an excellent bore with bright, strong rifling. The barrel has approx. 95% blue with wear from attaching and detaching a bayonet. The 1884 breechblock has darkening case colors. The lock, hammer, trigger guard, and bands have approx. 95% blue. The ramrod and swivels are present. The stock is fine with light to moderate issue wear, no cracks, a small chip at the left buttplate heel, and a visible SWP over 1890 cartouche. It is equipped with a correct trapdoor sling. The action functions correctly. This is a very nice late trapdoor cadet rifle.    AUSTIN LOCATION.
