This is a nicely unit-marked Danish 14 bore (69 caliber) Model 1849 ring hammer percussion service pistol. The overall length is approx. 17.25". The approx. 10.75" round smooth bore barrel has a fine mostly bright bore with no roughness. It is marked on the left toward the breech 4 DR. (4th Dragoons?) ES.83. with 881 (most likely the serial number) below. The right side has two small proof marks, a crown over GM and a crown over M. All the metal is bright with areas of light staining. The lock has a crown over M over 49 and the bolster and ring hammer each have what appears to be crown over M inspection stamps. The brass nose cap trigger guard, butt cap, and side plate have a smooth even patina. Each has a small inspection mark. The stock is good with an added coat of finish, light issue dents and dings, a small chip along the nose cap tang toward the side plate, and the barely visible traces of a rondel stamp on the left flat. The action functions correctly. This is a very nice looking Danish Model 1849 ring hammer service pistol. The unit markings make it even more interesting. If you collect ring hammer pistols, Danish pistols, or European percussion military pistols, this pistol is a must for your collection.
