Indian trade fusil by Barnett, London. Barnett provided trade guns to the American Fur Company, per Von Damm’s, The Fur Trade, p.164. This percussion Indian trade fusil has a 42⅛” octagon to round approximately .60 caliber barrel with two “wedding bands”. Bore is very good. Metal has a smooth dark patina. Lock is mostly bright with some staining. It is dated 1871 to the rear and has Barnett/ London (**ndon is missing) at the center. Hammer is lightly engraved. There is the typical large iron trigger guard, a brass serpent side plate, and two ramrod pipes. Barrel is marked from muzzle to breech crown/ P/ 24/ crown V/ (what appears to be a flag)/ crown/ J.E.B. The stock is very good with much of original finish. There is a small cracked area on the right at the rear cross pin. There is a brass reinforcement band at the tip. The heavy brass butt plate is secured by five screws. The ramrod is present. Action functions correctly. Overall, this is a very nice example of a very scarce Indian trade fusil. It is especially desirable because the barrel is still full length, many were shortened during use. This fine Indian trade fusil is ready for your collection.
