Winchester Model 1873 .44-40 caliber rifle. Serial #187695. Made approximately 1885. Action works fine. Bore is poor. The really neat feature of this old '73 is the forend. The forend is worn down so far that the magazine tube is exposed for 4" just in front of the receiver. This is the result from a cowboy 130 years ago resting the rifle across his saddle while riding herd on cattle. When you see this wear it normally leaves the wood dished out or bowed. We have in 40 years only seen 4 or 5 rifle worn completely through the wood. This is a real "Cowboy" collectors find.
