Serial no. 5064529. Manufactured circa the early 1940s at Mukden Arsenal in Japanese-controlled Manchuria, chambered in 6.5x50mm Japanese, 31" round barrel. Bore is very good with strong, well-defined rifling noted. Serial numbers are matching throughout, including the often-missing dust cover A partial Imperial chrysanthemum (“mum”) remains visible on the receiver, having been deliberately defaced during its period of military service. The stock shows expected handling and service impressions but remains in overall very good condition with an attractive military appearance. The rifle is accompanied by a Type 30 hooked-quillon bayonet manufactured by Toyoda Jidoshoki Seisakusho (Toyoda Automatic Loom Works) under Nagoya Arsenal supervision, complete with its scabbard and leather frog. The combination of matching numbers, matching dust cover, partially intact mum, and complete bayonet rig makes this an especially appealing example of a Mukden-produced Type 38. These rifles are an interesting variation of the Arisaka family, reflecting Japanese-controlled arms production in Manchuria during the turbulent years leading into and during WWII. Action is smooth, mechanically sound, and functions correctly.
