Serial No. 66192, manufactured early to mid-1943, chambered in 7.7×58mm, with a 26” round barrel. This Series 4 Type 99 bolt-action rifle was produced at the Nagoya Arsenal during a time of gradually increasing wartime expediency. The bolt is non-matching to the receiver but remains matching within itself, suggesting it was swapped as a complete unit either during or after its service life. The Imperial chrysanthemum (mum) has been ground off, a common practice either during surrender or postwar demilitarization. The rifle retains its anti-aircraft wings on the rear sight, a distinctive feature of mid-war production. The mono-pod has been removed, but signs on the stock indicate the rifle was originally equipped with one. The hardwood stock shows expected handling and usage wear, including a carved name “CAUETTE”—and a light “1045” carved into the stock making it a likely GI souvenir personalization. This example represents a well-used service rifle from the Pacific Theater. Action is smooth and functions correctly.
