Serial no. 165791. Manufactured circa mid–late 1942 by Inland Division of General Motors, chambered in .30 Carbine,18" round barrel marked “INLAND DIV./GENERAL MOTORS/1-43.” The bore is bright with strong, well-defined rifling noted throughout. The carbine remains in desirable WWII configuration, retaining its push-button safety and Type I flip rear sight marked “B-IP.” The high wood stock is in very good condition, showing light handling impressions, with “POWELL” carved into the wrist. The rifle is fitted with a bayonet lug barrel band and is accompanied by a magazine pouch, oiler, and sling. Inland was the largest producer of M1 Carbines during WWII, and early configuration examples such as this are increasingly sought after. The action is smooth, mechanically sound, and functions correctly.
