Serial No. PL6474, originally manufactured in 1890 at Brescia Arsenal, this rifle was converted in 1916 to the M1870/87/15 configuration for WWI service, rechambered in 6.5mm Carcano with a 33½” round barrel. Bore is good, with light oxidation and frosting noted; rifling remains strong. Stock has been lightly sanded and remains in very good condition. Action is smooth and functions correctly. Includes a shortened M1870/16 bayonet, marked Torino on the ricasso, with crossguard stamped “XU3755.” Original leather scabbard and frog are also in very good condition. A well-preserved example of Italy’s wartime adaptation of the Vetterli rifle, reflecting the logistical demands of World War I.
