Serial No. J9324, manufactured circa 1916, 7.65x53mm, 22” round barrel. Often referred to as “the rifle that saved Paris,” the Belgian Model 1889 Mauser played a vital role in the defense of Belgium during the German invasion of 1914. This example was produced at the height of the Great War, bearing a faint stock cartouche. Bolt is non-matching, and metal surfaces have turned to a smooth brown patina. Bore shows strong rifling, and the stock remains very good with light handling impressions noted. Action is smooth and functions correctly. A historically significant example of the Belgian 1889/16 Mauser, a rifle that stood at the forefront of Belgium’s resistance during World War I.
