Serial No. 194905B, made in 1885, .44-40, 24” octagonal barrel marked “WINCHESTER’S-REPEATING-ARMS. NEW HAVEN.CT./KINGS-IMPROVEMENT-PATENTED-MARCH 29.1866. OCTOBER 16.1860”. Bore is bright with scattered areas of frosting visible in the lands and grooves, rifling remains strong. Barrel, magazine tube and receiver are a smooth grey patina with light pin-prick pitting visible mostly on the receiver. Forward of the receiver is marked” 44 CAL”, 3rd model dust cover is present and tang is marked “Model 1873” in between decorative scroll. Brass carrier is marked “44 CAL”, Wood is attractive with some linseed oil added. A small surface crack is visible on the right side of the forearm just behind the nose cap. Action is strong and functions correctly.
