Serial No. 528885, manufactured in late 1891, chambered in .45-70 Government, with a 32 ½” round barrel. The original blued finish on the barrel is beginning to fade, developing a plum-brown patina, most noticeably around the breech area. Factory markings on the barrel, breechblock, and lock plate remain clear and well-defined. The stock is in very good condition, showing minimal handling wear, and features a sharp and attractive 1891 cartouche on the right side. Mechanically, the action is tight and fully functional. As a late-production example of the final U.S. military trapdoor rifle pattern, this Model 1888 includes the distinctive integral ramrod.
