In stock
Serial No. 389765, made in 1888, chambered in .45-70 Government, 32 ½” round barrel. Metal shows a thinning plum patina with traces of original blue remaining in protected areas. Factory markings on the breech and lock plate are sharp and legible. Stock exhibits expected nicks, dings, and scratches from field use. Action functions correctly. This rifle represents the final evolution of the U.S. "Trapdoor" system, which served as the standard-issue long arm from the Indian Wars through the Spanish-American War. The Model 1884 featured refinements like a Buffington rear sight and improved metallurgy, making it one of the most advanced single-shot military rifles of its time.
