In stock
Serial No. 240008, manufactured in 1884, .45-70 Government, 32½” round barrel. Metal surfaces, including the barrel, breech, and lock, have thinned to a smooth grey/brown patina with traces of original blue remaining in protected areas. Stock has been lightly refinished; faint traces of original cartouches are still visible. Rear sight is missing its elevation ladder, leaving only the fixed “V” notch base. Action is smooth and functions properly. Issued widely during the Indian Wars and still in limited use during the Spanish-American War, the Model 1873 was the U.S. Army’s standard service rifle for over two decades.
