SN: 1132, manufactured circa 1868–1870, chambered in .50-70 Government with a 32 ½” round barrel. The barrel shows a smooth light grey patina, while the breech, receiver, and lock plate exhibit a darker grey tone with traces of original blue finish present. The stock has been lightly sanded, though the original “ESA” (Erskine S. Allin) inspector cartouche remains faintly visible. A primitive star carving is also present on the wood, adding a personal, frontier-era touch. Action is tight and functions correctly. A well-preserved example of the first Springfield Trapdoor model made with all new parts and serialized receivers, not simply converted from Civil War muskets.
