NSN. Manufactured circa 1864 under contract by Samuel Norris and William T. Clement, chambered in .58 caliber,40" round rifled barrel. The musket remains in overall very good condition with a spotted grey patina noted on the barrel. Just forward of the barrel date is a marking “F.B.H.,” likely a sub-inspector or soldier’s initials, which is also present on the left side of the stock. The stock remains in very good condition with light handling impressions. The lock plate is marked with the U.S. Eagle and “S.N. & W.T.C. For Massachusetts,” indicating a state contract arm supplied during the Civil War to supplement Federal production. The action holds at both half and full cock, remaining mechanically functional. The musket is accompanied by a “U.S.” marked socket bayonet.
