Texas Ranger Owned Colt Single Action revolver. Texas Ranger single action belonging to Ranger James E. Mc Coy and later Sheriff James E. Mc Coy of Travis County. Gun was shipped to Walter Tips in Austin Texas in 1897 and has factory letter (Walter Tips was a prominent Colt dealer in Austin and supplied revolver to many Texas Rangers). Gun comes with impeccable provenance including a letter from Mc Coys granddaughter attesting to the authenticity of gun and mentioning in the letter that Ranger Mc Coy killed two men with his revolver in his service as a lawman. Included are many documents such as Mc Coys State of Texas warrant of authority issued to every Ranger giving them the ultimate authority over other law enforcement officers, also document of enlistment, oath of service and physical description. Copies of pages from his book Trails and Trials of a Texas Ranger the legendary Ranger Adjutant General W.W. Sterling writes of Mc Coy, “Ranger Jim Mc Coy, one of the Best men in the service” Included are several photos of one of General Sterling, with Frank Hammer who orchestrated and killed Bonnie and Clyde, and a photo of captain John Hughes known as the “Border Boss” because of his exploits along the Mexican border. Also included are documents detailing McCoys time as Sherriff of Travis County and of his earlier time as Deputy Sherriff and Deputy Constable and photos of him in later years. This Is a fine compilation of documentation seldom found with historic Texas Ranger Revolvers.
