Circa 1850. This is a North Eastern style Tomahawk measuring 17 ¾”” in overall length with a 3” cutting blade on the tomahawk head. This is an unusual design with The haft is inlaid with German silver diamond shaped escutcheon. The Pipe stem is done in pewter with geometric designs around the haft. This exact tomahawk is pictured in Tomahawks, Pipe Axes of the American Frontier by John Baldwin on page 107 (Figure 267).In the book, it was listed as being found in Texas. This Tomahawk is all original with the original untouched haft. Tomahawks with their original hafts are very rare and desirable. Very fine Tomahawk obviously used on the Western frontier.
