Spencer Sporting Rifle Conversion by Gemmer Very neat Spencer Sporting rifle with double keyed forearm. Gun is a.50 caliber, but we are not sure which exact cartridge it is. Metal has a smooth brown patina. Wood is very good. The rifle conversion with the forearm and cleaning rod appears to be the work of J.P. Gemmer. He took over the Hawken Rifle shop in the early 1860’s. There are no markings, but this is the style of work he did. Action works fine. Bore is excellent.
