This is a fine Japanese wakizashi forged in the Shinto to Shin-Shinto period (17th–19th century) in a naginata-naoshi style blade. The blade measures 15.25 inches (nagasa) and is mounted in a plain shira saya with a well-fitted two-piece brass habaki. Blade • Shape: Naginata-naoshi, with graceful curvature and an elongated kissaki derived from polearm form. • Nagasa: 15.25 inches. • Hi: A single bo-hi running nearly the full length of the blade, enhancing both balance and visual appeal. • Tang (Nakago): Mumei (unsigned), with two mekugi-ana, and a dark, even patina consistent with age and authenticity. Mounts • Shira Saya: Traditional plain wood storage mounts, clean and well-fitted. • Habaki: Nicely made two-piece brass habaki. Condition The blade is in older polish, with activity visible along the surface and fuller. Some areas of haze and patination are present, but no fatal flaws are observed.
