Saxon Wheellock Puffer Pistol (79186) 

NSN. Made Circa 1580-1590. This gun is in approximately 55 caliber with a 12.5" barrel. The overall length of this gun is 22.5". This is a beautiful example of a Saxon wheellock pistols, possibly an electoral guard pistol. The grip area and the ball butt are profusely inlaid with engraved stag horn with dense spiral rosettes composed of scrolling foliate tendrils. Both sides of the stock have vignette faces. There is also a half bust of a man in a renaissance style costume. The metal is superb and still nice and sharp. The barrel is marked with "H" and "R"  with a sink in between the letters of a lion holding a Halberd. This was an unknown mqaker sometimes identified as "Master HR" This is a fantastic Wheellock pistol worthy of the finest collection!
