NSN. Made circa 1770. 72 caliber with 10” barrels. These are exceptional Flintlock Pistols made for the King of Sardinia and Savoy, Victor Amadeus III. The Cross of Savoy is inlaid in Gold on the Silver Gilt butt caps. There is one ear of the left hand side of one pistols that has a quarter inch piece missing. The King’s initials are gold inlaid on the Silver escutcheon plates on each gun. The barrel is engraved and has Gold plating overlay. The portions of the barrel not overlaid has a dark brown patina. The mounts are relief cast and hand chased, then silver plated. The stocks are deluxe root wood and beautifully carved. The locks are marked “Rousset Turin” He worked in Turin Italy from 1751-1774.  King Victor Amadeus was King of Savoy and Sardinia. He became king in 1773 and reigned until he died in 1796. During the French Revolution, he was forced to sign the Treaty of Paris in May of 1796 which ceded control of many of his fortress and allowed passage into Italy by the French. This also included giving up the lands of Nice and Savoy. He died a few months later in October of 1796. This is a fantastic set of historical Royal guns!
