Serial No. 3632k, manufactured in 1940 by Erfurter Maschinenfabrik (ERMA) under the ordnance code “AX”, chambered in 8mm Mauser with a 24-inch round barrel. This rifle represents one of the rarest K98k production variants of the Second World War. The “AX” code was assigned to Erma for a brief production run in late 1940 through 1941, during which only an estimated 0.03% of all K98k rifles were produced at this facility. Production was soon discontinued as Erma shifted its full capacity toward the manufacture of the MP38 and MP40 submachine guns, leaving “AX”-coded rifles exceptionally scarce. All serial numbers are matching throughout. Metal surfaces have thinned to a smooth light grey patina, with factory markings and Waffenamt acceptance stamps remaining sharp and legible. The stock is very good, showing only light handling impressions consistent with limited-service use. Action is smooth and functions correctly. The rifle is accompanied by its original wartime sling.
