Serial No. 125648, manufactured circa 1899, chambered in .30-40 Krag with a 22" round barrel. The bore is bright with strong, well-defined rifling. The barrel has toned to a smooth brown/grey patina consistent with age and service. Production of the Model 1898 Krag carbine was limited to approximately 5,000 examples, and this serial number falls squarely within the known carbine range. As with nearly all surviving 1898 carbines, this carbine was refurbished by the U.S. Ordnance Department and updated with period improvements, most notably the Model 1899 stock lacking the earlier sling bar provision. The left side of the stock bears a crisp and attractive 1899-dated cartouche. Overall condition is very good, presenting as an honest, well-preserved example of a highly sought-after U.S. cavalry arm. Action is smooth and functions correctly. A scarce and important Krag carbine well suited for the advanced U.S. martial arms collector!
