Serial number n52899, originally manufactured in 1878. This rifle was later arsenal-converted to .22 caliber and fitted with a 28” round barrel. The bore is bright and shiny with strong, well-defined rifling, making it an excellent example of a military trainer conversion. The rifle remains in very good overall condition and was arsenal re-blued at the time of conversion, with the finish presenting evenly throughout. The stock shows only light handling impressions and retains a handsome cartouche, adding to its visual appeal and historical character. The action is smooth and functions correctly, making this a desirable and uncommon training variant of the classic French Gras system.
