The stainless steel German Navy SLD (Signal und Leucht Doppelschussmodel - "signal and light double shot model) was adopted by the Kreigsmarine in 1936 and was used to the end of WWII. Approximately 4,000 were made by Walther. They were issued to battleships and U-Boats. The overall length of this large pistol is approx. 14". The 9.125" round 26.5mm barrels have excellent bores with the left having one small area of roughness about half way. The left side of the frame is marked WAFFENFABRIK WALTHER ZELLA-MEHLIS (THUR) over 1940 followed by the WALTHER banner logo followed by the serial number, 1468. To the rear of these markings is the Kreigsmarine property stamp of the Kreigsmarine eagle over M over III/3. The safety, marked Feuer and Sicher is at the left rear of the frame. The rear grip strap is stamped N over 650 (North Fleet, gun 650). The barrel selector is on top of the frame at the rear of the barrels. Each barrel has a loaded chamber indicator. The right side of the frame has an eagle inspection stamp. The original checkered walnut grips are very good with light wear and no cracks or chips. The original walnut foregrip is fine. The stainless steel is excellent with only a few areas of light staining near the muzzle. The action functions correctly. You won't find a better early war SLD German flare pistol.
