Serial No. H28949, manufactured circa late 1939 to April 1940, 7.5x54mm French, 22.6” round barrel
This example of the MAS 1936 bolt-action rifle represents France’s standard infantry weapon at the outbreak of World War II. This rifle is an early wartime production model, made just before the German invasion. Serial numbers are matching, with the exception of the magazine floor plate. The original French black enamel finish has thinned to a soft grey patina, especially along high contact areas. The stock appears to have been lightly sanded, though a faint French cartouche remains visible on the right side. Action is smooth and functions correctly. A well-preserved example of France’s last domestic rifle design prior to occupation.
