Circa 1790-1800. This is an unusual form Tomahawk that is very similar to one in the British Museum (Item: Am,Dc.76). The overall length is just above 17” and the cutting edge of the blade is 3 3/8” long. The pipe bowl is made from an old repurposed gun barrel as you can still see the rifling inside the bowl. The blade itself has a federal eagle on one side and an American Indian with tomahawk raised grasping at a colonist. This Tomahawk is all original with the original untouched haft. Tomahawks with their original hafts are very rare and desirable. This piece comes out of the legendary Peter Tillou collection. Mr. Tillou was had a legendary career dealing in the finest of the finest American antiques. Prior to Mr. Tillou, this tomahawk was sold in Cottone Auctions in Buffalo, Ny on January 1, 2009 for $58,000 presumably to Mr. Tillou. (DALLAS LOCATION)
