Serial No. P28711, originally manufactured in 1898 and later converted by Sparkbrook in 1905 to the Short Magazine Lee-Enfield configuration before undergoing its final transformation into a .22 caliber training rifle. Serial numbers are matching, and the magazine—correct for these conversions—is unmarked with its spring and follower removed. Metal surfaces have thinned to a light grey patina Consistent with age and service. The socket cup is marked "Crown/V.R./Enfield/1898/L.E./I/SHT.22/III/B.S.A. Co.,” with the opposite side stamped “Sparkbrook/1905/SHT. L.E./COND II,” clearly documenting its conversion lineage. The bolt head is properly marked “.22 No.2.” Stock remains in overall good condition with light handling impressions and visible arsenal repairs. A faint cartouche is present on the butt, and the stock disk bears the marking “R.P/5.15/7” between “P–G,” indicating unit or rack assignment. Action is smooth and functions correctly.
