Serial number 48351. Made in 1917 by The Birmingham Small Arms Company Limited (BSA) with a 25.2-inch barrel that has a bright bore with strong visible rifling. This example of the Short Magazine Lee-Enfield - or No. 1 rifle - exhibits the production changes that were being implemented during World War I to create the Mk.III* like the elimination of the magazine cut-off & the long-range volley sights. Condition overall is fair with original factory finish across the metallic parts that is thinning in some places & shows evidence of oxidation in others. The walnut hardwood furniture reveals the type of handling wear that one expects to see on a 100 year old military service rifle that went through a couple of world wars. This is a perfectly adequate example of the type of rifle that armed the BEF on the Western Front during the latter half of the Great War. Comes with an original 10-round magazine with green paint on it.
