The top of the barrel is marked C.D. TANNER IN HANOVER“ The engraving and inlay are top notch and are what you would expect to find on Royal guns. This gun comes in the original box with the makers label. The escutcheon on the top of the box has the King’s initials with a crown on top and a “IV“ below. King Willliam the IV only ruled a short time before his death, but it was very eventful. He ruled from June of 1830 top June of 1837. He was suceeded by his niece Queen Victoria. During his reign he repaired the american English relations, became the King of Hanover, Germany, passed the Factory Act of 1833 which eliminated Child Labor, the Poor Law of Admendment Act of 1834 (basically enacted welfare and most importantly the Slavery Act of 1834 which outlawed slavery in the British Colonies. In addition to the escutcheon on the top of the case comes the auction tag from Sotherby’s where these were sold. The sale happened in October of 2005 and all of the items came from the Royal House of Hanover. Very fine guns with unapproachable provenance!
