Serial No. 1011d, manufactured in 1918 by the Royal Prussian Arsenal at Erfurt, chambered in 7.92×57mm Mauser with a 23.75-inch round barrel. This example represents a late-war production Karabiner 98az, one of the final carbines manufactured for Imperial German forces before the Armistice. The double-date receiver, marked “1918 / 1920” indicates that the rifle remained in official German military service following World War I, as required under the Treaty of Versailles, which permitted a limited rearmed Reichswehr to retain designated small arms for police and military use. All serial numbers are matching throughout, including the screws. Metal finish retains a high percentage of the original factory blue, showing light wear and scattered brown patina from service use. Factory markings and Imperial proofs remain sharp and legible on the receiver and barrel shank. The gun is a Polish re-work that went through the Spanish Civil War & because of that the walnut replacement stock is marked with the letter "A" which indicates its use by urban anarcho-syndicalist forces during the conflict.
