fine Edo-period wakizashi signed “Settsu jū Sukehira” (摂津住助廣) and dated Kanbun 7 (1667). The blade measures 21 9/16 inches (54.7 cm) and is preserved in plain shira-saya mounts. This wakizashi displays the characteristic Kanbun-era sugata, with shallow curvature and stout proportions. The blade features an active midare hamon in clear polish, a well-formed chū-kissaki, and a clean boshi. The tang is ubu with a single mekugi-ana, bearing both the smith’s signature and exact date. Sukehira was an Osaka-area smith of the Shintō period, producing blades during the early Edo era. This example, signed and dated, represents a collectible 17th-century work with historical appeal, preserved in excellent condition for study and appreciation.
