Katana-length blade signed “Nōshū-jū Shigekuni” (濃州住重國), identifying the smith as Shigekuni of Mino Province. The blade measures 25⅞ inches (65.7 cm), with shinogi-zukuri form, medium kissaki, and a gunome-midare hamon. Tang is ubu with a drilled mekugi-ana, bearing a well-cut Showa-period signature. The sword is mounted in complete WWII officer fittings, including leather-covered saya, tsuba, and decorated fuchi/kashira with tassel. Shigekuni was one of the numerous Seki smiths producing blades for the Japanese military during WWII. This example is representative of the period, an authentic wartime officer’s sword with strong collector appeal.
