The French An IX Dragoon Musket is a handsome flintlock weapon. They were issued to French Dragoon and Light Infantry regiments and other specialized units. The length is approx. 55.5". The 40.5" round 69 caliber barrel has a fine smooth bore. All the metal has a smooth gray-brown patina. The barrel has impressed stamped oval script D and P proof marks with DT following. There are light vise marks at the breech. The barrel tang is marked in script Ml an 9. The lock is clearly marked MANUFrf over DE VERSAILLES. The brass front band, rear band, trigger guard, and side strap have an even aged patina. The swivels and ramrod are present. The stock is very good with no cracks, an old chip at the lower front of the lock, light issue wear, and an 1814 dated rondel on the right butt. The bayonet is fine with a smooth steel patina. It has two inspection stamps on the shank and other stamps on the blade flat just forward of the shank. It fits this Dragoon musket perfectly. The action functions correctly. One could build an interesting collection of just French An IX firearms!
