Serial No. 724912, manufactured June–July 1942 by Springfield Armory. Chambered in .30-06 with a 24” round barrel marked “S-A-6-42”, correctly stamped upside down, as seen on mid-1942 barrels.
Bolt is marked “D28287-12SA/RE6B”, with heat lot “C110/D28291-17.” Op-rod is uncut and marked “D35382 3 SA.” Rifle retains its early Type 2 rear sight, and faint black enamel finish is still visible on the gas cylinder—a feature often seen on rifles from this period. Trigger housing is marked “D28290-12-SA” and the hammer “C46008-5 SA.” Stock shows light handling wear and bears faint yet correct mid-war cartouches: “S.A./FMF” and Ordnance Wheel on the right side, with a circled “P” proof behind the wrist. Action is smooth and functions correctly. A well-preserved and correctly configured example of an early 1942 U.S. M1 Garand rifle with a period correct sling.
