Serial No. 96603, made circa early to mid-1941, 7.7x58mm, 25 ½” round barrel. Produced by Nagoya Arsenal during the early stages of Type 99 rifle production under the Series 0 block. Serial numbers are matching throughout, including the internal components, indicating this rifle remains in original configuration. The Imperial chrysanthemum (mum) has been removed, and both the monopod and anti-aircraft sight wings have been removed as well, a common occurrence on rifles returned postwar or used in training. Metal finish has aged to a grey/brown patina, with traces of original blueing visible in protected areas. The stock shows typical handling and usage wear, and one of the early drain holes found on these stocks has been plugged. Action is smooth and functions correctly. A solid and representative example of an early Type 99.
