NSN, made circa 1860s, .32 caliber, 35 ½” round barrel. The barrel has a smooth plum/brown patina and is marked on the top flat “Doherty & Evans – Petersburg Va.” The lock plate, hammer, breech, and tang all feature delicate floral engraving, with the lock plate additionally marked “Doherty & Evans.” Silver-plated furniture exhibits a warm, even patina. The walnut stock is well-preserved with sharp checkering at the wrist and only light handling marks noted. The distinctive pineapple finial patch box is engraved with a stylized dragon-like creature. Equipped with functioning double set triggers, this is a finely made Southern percussion rifle from the mid-19th century.
