Serial number 8591. Made in 1874. 45 LC caliber with a 2.5” barrel. This is a really neat gun with high relief chiseled oak leaf engraving. This gun started life as a Colt Artillery model and was converted into a sheriff’s model. The trigger guard was partially removed to be a “Fitz Special style gun named John Henry Fitgerald who was a Colt exhibition shooter and salesman. He made modifications to early Colt double action pistols by removing part of the trigger guard and these became known as Fitz Specials. The grips are very fine two piece ivories. The metal is silver plated with small parts Gold plated in excellent condition with almost all of the finish. On the top strap of the gun is engraved “Remera Masco Inc”. We have not been able to find any information on this company.
