Serial number 2249. Made in 1863. 44 RF caliber with a 24.25” barrel. This gun has a later Henry barrel that is numbered 10317 to the frame which is all correctly matching with the serial number 2249. The frame, stock butt plate and all of the screws are matching. The only non matching part is the barrel. The barrel was made in 1865 after the civil war, so it is possible the original barrel was damaged and then replaced. It certainly matches the condition of the rest of the gun and appears to have been together since the time of use. The barrel has a dark brown patina and remains sharp. All markings are clear. The elevator on the rear sight is missing. The frame was cleaned at some time, but is now starting to age into a golden patina. The wood is original and just slightly undersized at the frame due to shrinkage. There has been no refinishing. This gun falls in the range of the 1st Washington D. C. cavalry guns which were used to protect the capital. All of these guns had sling swivels as this one does. All in all this is a very attractive Civil war Henry Rifle
