Serial no. L8803. Manufactured circa 1945–1946 at Gongxian Arsenal, chambered in 8mm Mauser,24" round barrel. The bore is good with strong, well-defined rifling noted throughout. The metal has developed a plum-colored patina, while the stock shows expected light handling marks and remains in overall good condition. The receiver is marked with a bow and arrow inside a gear, the identifying mark of Gongxian Arsenal production. The Type 24, commonly referred to as the “Chiang Kai-Shek rifle,” is a Chinese copy of the Mauser 98 pattern and served as the primary standard rifle of Nationalist Chinese forces during the Second Sino-Japanese War and WWII. Production was often dispersed among multiple arsenals under difficult wartime conditions, leading to variations in finish and quality. Late-war examples such as this reflect continued efforts to arm Chinese forces during the closing stages of WWII and into the Chinese Civil War. The action is smooth, mechanically sound, and functions correctly.
