Serial number NSN. Made circa 1850s. 44 caliber with 8” barrels. These are interesting guns as they take superposed loads (one charge on top of the other) They were made by Henry LePage who was the finest gunmaker of the period. The guns are in very good condition. The metal was lightly cleaned and now the barrels have a mottled gray to brown patina.. The barrels are beautifully etched and are marked “Le PAGE arqer Du Roi a PARIS” or Lepage Arquebusier Du Roi a Paris which translated to “Lepage Gun Maker to the King of Paris” The action still has all of the original case colors. The locks are beautifully engraved and finished in French Gray. The stocks are nicely carved. These guns come in an original case with the accessories. The top of the case has the Royal Crest of Otto Friedrich Ludwig von Wittelsbach, King of Greece. Also accompanying this gun is a business card of an Athens antique dealer which has the receipt of sale for $5000 Drachmas in 1959 and marked Prince George Collection presumably when the antique dealer purchased these from the prince. King Otto was the last King of Greece until he was desposed in 1862. His reign was largly unsuccesful due to economic conditions. Very neat historical Set!
