Serial no. 2696. Manufactured circa 1871 by Birmingham Small Arms Co., chambered in .577 Snider, 36¾" round barrel. Bore is bright with strong, well-defined rifling noted. The metal has aged to an even grey patina with scattered areas of surface oxidation present. The left side of the barrel displays numerous period proof and inspection markings. The stock shows scattered handling and usage impressions consistent with its age. The Snider represents an important transitional period in British firearms development, converting the military from muzzle-loading arms to breech-loading metallic cartridges. Action functions correctly.
