British Flintlock Fowler Converted to Percussion. Lock marked “Cranmer”. We could find only one Cranmer (Samuel of S. Cranmer & Co. Market Hill Woodbridge Suffolk 1887-1894). As this is a fowler originally made approximately 1730-1750, in our opinion, the later lock would still not be late enough to have been made by Samuel Cranmer. Possibly converted by an earlier family member not listed in our research materials. This is a bit unusual in length as the barrel, octagon two-stage transition to round, is 41” with an overall length of 64”. Stock is very good with no chips or cracks. There is a very well carved shell pattern around the breech plug tang. The trigger guard finial is very well done in a panoply of arms, cannons, banners, trumpet and helmet. The barrel keys are accented by silver escutcheons. Overall a very well made and eye appealing fowler.
