British 1834 Household Cavalry Officer’s Sword. This is one of the most attractive of British Army pattern swords is still worn by officers of the household Cavalry. It was first adopted in the 1834 Dress Regulations and designated for use by the officers of the 1st Life Guards. The sword has a half basket, steel pierced hilt with regimental cipher of the 1st Life Guards in brass. The edges of the basket are ornamented with twelve plain brass studs; the back piece is of plain polished steel with brass cap. Straight cut and thrust blade with hatchet edge and square back. Blade is 36” and overall length is 42½”. Blade is engraved and marked “Hawkes & Co / London / Manufacturers / To the Queen.” Very good plus condition overall.
